Apogee collects over 40kg of litter at beach clean-up in support of Great British Beach Clean

October 2021: Apogee, Europe's largest multi-brand provider of Managed Workplace Services, partnered with The Marine Conservation Society to bring its employees two regional beach clean ups in support of the Great British Beach Clean which took place from Friday 17th - Sunday 26th September 2021.

The Great British Beach Clean is a week-long citizen science event, where hundreds of beach cleans take place up and down the UK. Litter data collected drives their conservation work and also feeds into the International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC).

In total, 33 Apogee employees collected over 40kg worth of litter across a 200 metre stretch of beach in Whitstable, Kent and Paull on the Humber. 2,812 pieces of litter were collected, ranging from fishing materials to syringes and needles.

It was extremely important for Apogee to do their bit and help contribute towards a more sustainable future for our coastline. In doing so, the team removed over 1,900 pieces of plastic composed of bags and bottles and 470 sanitary products consisting of wet wipes and cotton bud sticks. These two figures alone make up 90.76% of the total litter found.

This is a continuation of our journey to help create a more sustainable future. Team Apogee did a fantastic job over the two days and I'm very proud of their commitment and efforts and I look forward to many more events over the coming months aimed at making a sustainable difference wherever we can. This forms part of our wider sustainability strategy, combined with a greater commitment to make a positive contribution to our communities and society.
– Mark Smyth, Chief Operating Officer at Apogee
