Join Us and Participate in This Year’s Earth Hour

Apogee is pushing to be even more sustainable and encouraging our staff to participate in Earth Hour to give back to our planet.

On Saturday 23rd March at 8.30pm, switch off and give an hour back to Earth!

What is Earth Hour?

Earth Hour was founded by WWF and partners as a lights-out event in Sydney in 2007 to draw attention to the devastating effects of climate change.

It is now held annually on the last Saturday of March. Earth Hour is one of the world’s largest grassroots movements for the environment and encourages millions of people in over 180 countries to switch off their lights and show support for the planet.

Earth hour has sparked global conversations about protecting nature, because it is our strongest ally against climate change. According to WWF, the below is what can happen to the Earth in an hour:

  • The area of 1,631 football pitches of forest is lost in an hour.

  • Over 4.6 million tonnes of CO2 is emitted in an hour.

  • Food equivalent to almost 3.5 million meals is lost or wasted in the UK each hour.

  • The Greenland ice cap is losing an average of 30 million tonnes of ice an hour due to the climate crisis.

By keeping power off for just one hour, we can reduce significant impact to the environment, contributing toward a more stable environment and climate.
