Parkview Academy can identify savings opportunities, reduce operating costs, provide high-level security and help gain a higher degree of control of their overall print environment.

“We have been in contract with Apogee for the last two years and have always been completely satisfied with the performance of the equipment and software provided.

Our account with Apogee has always been dealt with efficiently, and the engineers are always prompt to attend site when necessary."

– Jen Chapman, Finance Manager - Park View Academy

The Background

The Parkview Academy have been at the heart of Chesterle-Street, Durham since 1911, it was the town’s first grammar school and now is the largest Academy. They are rooted into the community and long established as an innovative Academy offering children a 21st Century education of real worth and foster traditional values.

The Parkview Academy passionately believe that all young people can achieve if challenged to do so, that each has in them special qualities, talents and strengths which it is the duty of true educators to develop.

Before Parkview Academy entered into a three year contract with Apogee, the school accumulated a large combination of devices which they acquired as and when they were needed. They had sole responsibility for all devices, including the purchasing, maintenance and servicing of devices.

As well as the sourcing and purchasing of printer consumables, this high level of responsibility consequently meant that staff time was being spent on unproductive tasks. Additionally, as there were devices in every classroom, the Academy was overwhelmed with the level of service and time required to manage the large number of devices. The lack of a clear print strategy within the Academy made processes inefficient, leading to consumable, energy and cost wastage.

The Solution

With optimising the fleet and reducing cost and time spent being the priorities, Apogee investigated the facts around the existing solution to gain a thorough understanding of the Academy’s working practices. From this, Apogee provided recommendations, which resulted in the installation of 72 classroom printers and four Multi Functional Devices under a Managed Print Service.

Along with the new hardware devices, Apogee’s Professional Services team suggested Print Management Solutions; which monitors, allocates and controls printing resources by tracking detailed printer usage information by printer, user, project, department or cost centre. Parkview Academy can identify savings opportunities, reduce operating costs, provide high-level security and help gain a higher degree of control of their overall print environment.

Apogee’s Professional Services also installed technology that helps students and staff to print faster, use less energy, be more productive, more efficient and with less cost. Students now have improved performance in every way. Making it possible to produce high-quality durable prints on a wide range of media with pigments for deep blacks and vivid colours and print at speed and make economical savings.

The Outcome

The adoption of a new managed print solution with better pricing enabled the Academy to place a managed device in all classrooms. Standardising the fleet ensures that print processes are aligned, eliminating waste, reducing costs, and lessening the overall carbon footprint.

Also, as all devices are managed, it encourages responsible behaviour and makes all departments accountable for their print usage which further supports the reduction of personal carbon footprints.

With the Print Management Solution installed, the Academy benefits from a fully secure and traceable
print function across the entire Academy.

The one-click detailed reporting process allows Academy staff to create ad-hoc reports by applying filter conditions, and send reports through email to specified people on a regular schedule. Full transparency and control is achieved, so it is clear how much it costs to produce each page of
printing, copying and scanning.
